Today we’re happy to announce that ChargeSmart Bill Payments customers can now pay many of the utility companies in our network with an American Express card. There’s many benefits to using American Express to pay electric, water, or gas bills, and we couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership. One of the top customer requests over the last few years has been the introduction of American Express as a payment method on ChargeSmart Bill Payments, and although we’re currently limiting American Express payments to select billers in the utility category, we’re excited about this new way to make bill payments online.
American Express Utility Bill Payments
American Express has a reputation as the premier card in a competitive industry, and is also known for holding high standards as to exactly who and what their card may be used for. With nearly 90 million cards in force, American Express is the world’s largest issuer by volume. Using American Express to pay gas, electric, or water bills opens consumers up to a whole new way of using and managing their credit online, and consumers using their American Express Cards as a payment method can also benefit from the company’s industry-leading rewards programs and platforms. We truly view this as a win-win for consumers and utility providers alike.
Expanding Online Bill Payment Options
Payment options for utility providers across the U.S. are increasingly limited, with many not even willing to accept any type of card at all. For those that do choose to accept some form of debit or credit cards, American Express is rarely, if ever, included as an option. With our announcement today, that’s no longer the case. Take a quick look at a few examples of utility providers in the ChargeSmart network who you can now pay with American Express:
Benefits for American Express Members
Since all transactions on ChargeSmart Bill Payments are treated as traditional retail purchases, you’ll never be subject to any cash advance fees, while also receiving the full benefits afforded to you by your American Express Membership Rewards Program. Additionally, many small business owners search for every opportunity possible to pay for monthly business expenses with an American Express card – with this new program, utility bills can now be added to that list.
Although we are currently limiting American Express payments to the utilities listed above, we plan on adding American express support for our entire directory of utility companies by the end of 2011. If you have questions about how you can pay utility bills with an American Express card, please email us at support@ChargeSmart.com, or give us a call at 1-866-724-2743.
