Update from the Future of Money Conference

Yesterday we had the pleasure of participating as a sponsor at the Future of Money and Technology Conference, an annual event dedicated to highlighting some of the best and brightest upcoming companies in the finance and payments space. Our own CEO, Tim Brinkman, sat in on a panel titled Covering Your Bills, and along with executives from BillFloat and ZestCash, provided insights into the ever-changing and evolving online payments marketplace. We were fortunate to meet some very interesting people throughout the day, and hear insightful commentary from top executives and founders from a variety of companies.

One speaker who especially stood out was Ramit Sethi, who gave a short talk about the psychology of user behavior on the web. Even though the name of his website sounds a bit gimmicky, Ramit is on the top of his game, and I have to say that it’s been a long time since I’ve heard anyone speak so convincingly about the true factors that drive user behavior. If you haven’t checked out his blog “I will teach you to be rich”, make sure you check it out today!

The company I saw that I was most impressed by was Dynamics Inc. – what they’re working on is some seriously futuristic stuff!! Dynamics is introducing a suite of digital programmable credit/debit cards, which allow you to add multiple credit card and debit card accounts to a single card, and then choose which one you’d like to use at the point of transaction. It even offers an additional level of security that ensures if your card is stolen it can’t be hacked or used without your permission – it essentially goes blank! Products like this one are definitely the future of money.

There were at least a dozen other panels to choose from, and overall I’d say that the conference was a smashing success – we’d be honored to be invited back as a sponsor next year. The payments industry is moving so fast that the technologies we use today could easily become obsolete within 5-10 years, and events like this one definitely help you keep on top of what’s happening now, and what’s going to be happening next.  We’re excited to see what the Future of Money holds, and would like to thank the organizers of the conference for letting us be a part of the experience!
